Elin sat in her spacecraft wondering what to do next. She gazed at Earth below and
decided if she wanted to fire or not. She sat back from her viewer and sighed "How did I get my
self in to this mess in the first place? Oh, yeah. I remember now."
Elin was born on the planet of Playn to a family that was strange. Her parents were a bit
paranoid about everything. Even Elin's brothers and sisters noticed it. They warned Elin when
she was one your old; however, she did not listen until that fateful night five years later.
It was the year 2555 playnion standard time. She was in the second grade, and she was
determined to finish assignments her teachers had given her when she heard a voice over her
intercom.
"Hey you! Look out cause I'm going to get you. I am from the planet Earth and I dislike
all Playnions. I will catch you without warning. Just remember who gave you this message. My
name is 'A Human from Earth."
Elin got the shivers but did not tell her momma or dodda about it. They were obsessed
about everything from the food she ate to the way she walked. It was the same with her siblings.
Both parents had had traumatic space accidents in there youth and now they had a fear of all
things. Elin's mom walked with a limp and her dad could hold nothing with his hands.
Everyday when she woke up, she worried about the message that the Earth creature had given
her. She dreamed about that awful message time and again.
When Elin finished her elementary years, she decided she took an interest on the
sciences. Witch one? She had no idea. She thought about it during her summer break and had an
idea about what to do about her peculiar situation.
While in her junior years, she studied physics, chemistry, and biology. She still couldn't
come to a decision so she researched all three and decided to include geology. During her
years of higher learning, she decided upon space travel. She didn't know why, but she had a gut
feeling she must do so. She had forgotten about the message that "A Human from Earth" had
given her until 10 years later.
She was having a wonderful night's slumber in the space station when she heard a voice.
"Hey. This is A Human from Earth! I'm coming within the next 48 hours to get you so be
prepared. I'm coming whether you like it or not. You will be dead with in 48 hours and nobody
will know what happened to you!"
A malevolent laugh came from the voice and she awoke with a start.
"I'm dreaming! Right?" she thought, but the voice was too real. It sent a cold chill down
her spine. She knew what she had to do. The question was did she have the courage? Could she
do what she was destined to accomplish?
She left that day and headed towards the planet Earth. She had no idea what she would
come across or what the planet Earth was. Before she left, she inquired where it was via a
member of the space station who had been to Earth 5 years previous. She got there in 20 minutes.
The system she used involved separating space and time so she could get somewhere in 48 hours
and make it seem like 20 minutes to the observer on the other side. She looked down at the green
and beautiful Earth and had regrets about what she might have to carry out. She decided to go
down and investigate who sent her that dreadful message several years ago. Before leaving, she
relaxed with some Vivaldi and Bach which the member who had visited earth had given to her.
Then she left to accomplish her mission.
When her ship landed with a bump, she decided to start with a house she had seen a few
miles away. She got acquainted with the gravity and headed off. She stopped by the first house
she saw but nobody appeared to be there. She wandered the village and found someone
suspicious. He was leaning on a staff looking like he sought after punching somebody. He was
six feat 2 inches and really muscular. He had blond short curly hair and a malicious smile on his
face. She sauntered up to him and asked coldly
"Did you send me that message several years ago?
Why, we meet at last! I knew I recognized you from the films I saw about you and your
planet. I was looking forward to coming to Playn, but I get to kill you now and nobody on your
planet or space station will know where you've gone."
He laughed a keening cold laugh that sent chills down Elin's spine. She took off, but the
stranger was faster. She knew who he was from pictures that she was in her books. He was
known to be a famous astronaut.
She knew that she could not defeat him so wheezing, she picked up a boulder and
shouted "Hey! Over here!" and threw the boulder at him. He grunted and hit the ground.
However, he was not going to let Elin escape. Staggering, he shouted:
"What do you think you're doing! Do you think you can stop me?"
"Yes!" panted Elin and lobbed another boulder at him.
"As you've learned, I do not give up to easily. I want you dead! Do you hear me? Dead!"
Well, I don't give up easily either and I mean to kill you if it's the last thing I do!" and she
darted to her ship. When she arrived there, she wondered if she could really do what she meant to
do.
When Elin arrived at the space station, she told her crew what she was going to do.
Everyone was flabbergasted except for the member who had been to Earth 5 years previous. He
sat there looking traumatized.
"What's wrong," asked elin.
He sighed. "I dunno. I guess we should show them what Playnions can really do. I mean
... I'm sorry to see all of them go ... but .... He trailed off and Elin understood.
"You'll miss your friends?"
"Yah. Guess so. It's just that ... the one who is threatening you ... he was my friend. I
met him 5 years ago and I never knew him to hurt anybody!" He started to sob. Elin gave him a
squeeze on the shoulder. He winced and seemed to comprehend.
"Do what you must. I understand."
Elin collected three crew members and went to her ship. When she arrived at Earth, she
found a surprise awaiting her in her viewer. There was the man who threatened her staring her in
the face
"Well well! We meet again. He laughed and elin shivered.
I'm not afraid of you. I will blow up this earth if it's the last thing I do. You have 20
seconds to decide if you want to escape, I turn you in, or you die!
Nah you wouldn't do that. You're a girl and I know you aren't that strong minded.
Obviously, you don't know me that well. I am strong minded and I am determined to red
the earth of all scum like you.
"Careful" she heard a voice in her ear from the member who had been to earth before.
"I know, john. Let me handle this.
He sighed "All right, but if you need ...
"Ok ok!"
Well? What is taking so long, elin, are you going to fire?" the stranger laughed and
everyone on the ship got the shivers.
Elin had an idea and after instructing her crew she said coldly, "You have 20 minutes to
escape, Human. I have placed a mine in orbit that will, in 20 minutes, scatter burning debris and
set your planet ablaze."
"You didn't!"
"I did and I can escape." A read light suddenly came from her viewer and her weapon's
controller shouted
"We're going to be attacked soon if we don't get outa here!"
Send a bomb at it so as to stop it!" She continued to her self "I hope this works."
The bomb not only stopped whatever the thing was, but it left a glowing ember that can
still be seen today.
She heard a scream. "That was my best weapon! Why did you do that? I worked for 5
years on it just to kill you. Oh by the way how's John doing?
"Never mind about that. You have 18 minutes left and I know for a fact that the nearest
runway is 2 hours away so ... Oh by the way, 20 minutes is in playnion time so actually, you
have 5 seconds to escape.
Nooooooo!"
A bright flash illumined from where the earth had been. It was so bright that her crew
could see it from the portholes.
Do you relies our system can work in reverse?" a voice sounded in her ear.
"Hmm?"
Hey, elin. Elin? Elin!
Oh. John. What did you say?
"The system we use to get around, did you relies you could travel through time? You
could undo what you did."
How?"
"Hit the reverse thrusters and put it to a speed just a little faster then light. Now you have
a chance to talk to Human and...
"You really want me to do that! You think just because I talk to him that that will ...
"I know it sounds strange, but I know Human and I think he has gone mad. After all, he
didn't mind I was a Playnion. Please, give this a try, Elin. I know he will listen to you and if he
doesn't, put me on the calm."
Well, I don't know. Do you think this will work?
What do you think?
Elin sobbed "John, I have never destroyed a planet in my life, until now."
"Well then, try to correct what you did.
Ok. Thanks."
After a moment of relaxing, she ordered her crew to prepare for battle. Then she hit the
reverse thrusters. Everything went dark then the Earth appeared in her viewer. She stared in
amazement at the primitive scene before her.
Umm ... Elin ... I think you went to far back. Human wasn't born in the dinosaur age.
"Woops!" She tried again and a familiar seen greeted her. There was Human staring her
in the face. She realized with hoarer that this was a few days before she went to Earth to talk
with Human. She quickly composed herself and asked as calmly as she could
"Why do you want to destroy me? Why do you hate all Playnions?"
"Well, five years ago, this playnion came to earth to explore and study the earth. He was
taking samples of the local estuary when he fell in to quicksand He thought it was ordinary sand.
He was going to take a sample when he took a step and fell. I happened to be wandering by when
I heard his shouts. He was almost up to his neck. I ran home and obtained a rope. When I got him
out, He introduced himself and walked away. No 'thank you.' I reflected on what happened and
remembered the time I saved your mother and father from the accident and they also walked off
with out a 'thank you.' When I saw your face on the viewer when you were doing homework, I
thought to my self 'Ok, so all playnions are rude. Maybe I should destroy her to teach them a
lesson."
You mean all of this is from 2 incidences?" Elin was boiling!
Human sobbed "Yes. Now that I think about it, how could I be so ...
"What is this with men and crying?" Elin thought.
"Why didn't those people say a 'Thank you?'?"
It's our culture. We just introduce ourselves, if we are able, and walk away. So, are you
going to destroy me?
No, but I do have a question. Can I see your culture and study it? I am an anthropologist
and sociologist on the side of my space career and I need a break from space travel for a while."
"Can I think about it?" She new that the other elin would not come as she had changed
her past.
"You have 24 earth hours!"
Elin went back to her space station and contemplated what she was going to do. Should
she trust this human? Could the human stand a little less O2 then he was used to? Of course she
fancied John knew what Human had said. She went to converse with him about it.
"Well, if he can get accustomed to the atmosphere and doesn't cause any trouble, I'd go
for it However, you need to remember that it's your decision."
She pondered that in her sleeping quarters and came to a decision.

Well, I don't know if I am going to continue. I might continue the Elin serious.
I really wish we could see the end of it, it sounds very interesting, and the way you left it as a cliff hanger, that's kind of what my teacher does when she reads to us he...(and if your wondering, I, am, not, in, kindergarten!)
